Art Director • First Alaskans Magazine, August 2011-December 2013

Consulted for non-profit First Alaskans Institute into transition of ownership after sale from Alaska Newspapers Inc. Planned visuals with editor and reporters and columnists. Recruited and supervised a team of veteran freelance photographers. Teamed with advertising account executives to design, process and proof ads, establish advertising production work flow and created collateral and rate card. Created marketing and subscription materials. Calculated advertising to editorial ratios, decided size and organization of the magazine. Established and coordinated production schedule. Consulted on printer bidding and selection process.

Visual Editor, Designer • Alaska Newspapers, Inc. and First Alaskans magazine, March 2010-August 2011

Designed two weekly newspapers, The Tundra Drums and The Seward Phoenix Log. Creative art director for First Alaskans, an Alaska Native business, culture and lifestyles magazine. Worked closely with editorial staff to develop alternative presentation ideas, graphics and illustrations. Dummied, designed and prepared pages to plate. Toned photos for all projects. Designed special sections, advertisements and commercial print projects. Performed pre-press duties included direct to plate for offset press. Created advertising collateral, rate cards and other marketing materials.

Wrote, assigned and edited stories, planned content, toned photos and designed special sections for the Anchorage Daily News. Took occasional photos. Was in charge of sections including Alaska House & Home, Alaska Pulse, Best of Alaska and Alaska Visitors’ Guide. Planned logistics, determined production schedule, tracked sales and goals and created sales packets for advertising staff. Revamped program with advertising management team and newsroom leaders.
